Snowbird

Back in February and March I talked about the bulky Malabrigo that my mom fell in love with when we went yarn shopping together. Well, instead of mailing the shawl I made down to her, I decided to wait until she came to visit so it could have a proper photo shoot.

If you’ll remember, this shawl was first going to be a High Line, and then something involving a gothic leaf pattern. Neither of these ideas really suited the yarn. I decided finally on the Multnomah pattern, but since I made it in a bulky weight I just omitted the feather and fan portion at the bottom. I like the very simple structure that shows off all the crazy colors in the yarn, and that’s exactly what my mom wanted too.

I really like the Multnomah pattern. I kind of want to make another one with the feather and fan included. I love how the front points are slightly curved to wrap around you better, like a hug.

Wednesday

  • Remember that swap I was doing with my mom? She came through on her end a few weeks ago and sent me this lovely crocheted shawl.

Now I just need to get to the post office and mail her knitted item out.

  • I started La Cumparsita in red laceweight a few days ago. I’m pretty far into the pattern now, so I doubt I’ll be ripping it out at this point.
  • The Made In Brooklyn hat I finished several days ago might be unwearable. I’ll have to consult with my ladies tonight before making a final decision.

A few weeks ago when I was in the US my mother and I went out to the yarn store together with some specific projects in mind. When we couldn’t find yarn we liked in the weights we needed, ended up buying yarn to make the projects for each other.

I started a High Line Shawl for her in this crazy colored Malabrigo.

But I didn’t quite have enough yarn to knit the last few rows, so I unraveled the whole thing into a ball the size of my head (not the easiest thing to travel back home with) and started up a new design last night.

Oddly enough, my mother ran out of yarn for her project too, but I’ve been told it’s now finished.

Someday I’ll get a crocheted shawl out of this yarn. Someday…
